A Colourful Argument

{jcomments on}How do we define the concept of Coloured?

We all know that under the apartheid government we were classified as Coloured because, to make a long story short, no-one knew exactly what we were other than we were many different things. The mixed breeds, evidence of the infidelity of the settlers. We were the dust meant to be swept under the rug right? The children took from their mothers arms to be hidden away in an orphanage. That curse has stuck. The mere fact that the question can be asked must illustrate to you that we don’t know what we are or at least struggle with the explanation. We may not be able to definitively describe what or who we are but we do know that we are distinct! So here is my argument on what we are: We are the Evolution!

My father once said to me that the whole world will be Coloured one day and it made so much sense to me. The term Coloured refers to one of mixed heritage. Who of us can’t trace our bloodline back to an Irish, Italian, Zulu, Xhosa, and Sotho, Indian, German ancestor or even all of those and more! If we look at society today, more and more people are getting into interracial relationships and I can’t help but snicker while watching dear dad’s prophecy coming true. How ironic is that the people who were hidden away and overlooked now threaten to overrun the world! Just makes you want to l.o.l, as the kids would say. We are the Evolution!

I recently had a debate on the subject of what a Coloured should call his or herself. The argument posed to me was that we call ourselves South African. Yes, of course. But South African WHAT? South African Zulu? South African Indian? South African Caucasian? South African Chinese? No, neither of those are ENTIRELY correct,

Uit ‘n Bruin perspektief sien ons hoePlease register or login to read more...

Good Friday in the real Perspective of it!

Easter

{jcomments on}Once again it's the celebration of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. No, I am not speaking of Jim Casavelli, but of the actual longhaired hippie dude from 2000 years ago. For you, JC was probably a beacon of light, a symbol of hope and goodness or maybe an icon for the only way to live your life. For me, JC is a different memory altogether.

When I think back, I remember the guy as the one that scared the shit out of me at my Old Toppi’s house when I was a kid because there were pictures and carvings of the guy on every wall in every room. Ek “G” nie!!. What's worse, in every picture he was shown either walking through the streets - bleeding to death - dragging a big-ass cross on his shoulder while people flying kicked him and flayed the skin off his bones, or he was nailed to that chunk of wood with some guy steeking a goney into his guts. And if it wasn't the pictures on the wall that had me cowering in the corner wanting to go home, it was when my Old Toppie would walk up to me, point to the crucifixion picture and say, "as jy nie jouself gaan gedra nie dan gaan dit met jou gebeur."

Now, I don't really have much of a E-Beef against my Old Toppie for putting the fear of death into me, it eventually was the reason that got me thinking - once I was released from the psychiatric ward of Wes-Koppies Hospitaal for trying to set my Old Folks house on fire while they were sleeping, of course - and for that I am thankful.
But I do have a E-Beef with the naming convention used for this holiday.

The Friday before Easter is the celebration of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ by the Jews, that is common knowledge and is blindly accepted by anyone in the Christian world simply because most people don't actually practice their religion and it means a free day off work. Not many people really sit down and think about the history behind the day, and if they did, I am sure it would raise a few eyebrows.

What is Good Friday?

I asked one random Bruin-ou Bra, and this was before Bruin-ou disappeared into the abyss of the Interwebz, who replied, "Good Friday is a Christian Public holiday?"

Another Bruin-ou Bra said (and I stand corrected coz im taking this from the top of my head, ona public Forum nogaals) that, "Good Friday is a day of the church, and it is a day off for families to get ready for the Christian celebration of Easter. The death and Ressurection of J-C"

When I informed the dumbfuck’s that Easter was originally the pagan celebration of Eastre, a time to honour and celebrate the Goddess of offspring and springtime before the Christians conquered the Anglo-Saxons in a bloody war and burned most of them to ash, sum of peeps resulted in namecalling one SmartASS called me
